The APE is a mandatory document which estimates the energy consumption of a housing unit.

The APE Energy Certification is required in the following cases:

Trading: transfers for valuable consideration (eg deed, exchange);
Donation: free transfers;
Rental of buildings or individual units;
Ads for sale or rent of real estate units (to determine the energy performance index)
New buildings at the end of the works.
Important restructuring when the works consist of over 25% of the surface of the building (walls and roofs) of the entire building;
Public buildings open to the public;
For all new or renewed contracts for the management of heating or air conditioning systems in public buildings.
